So you've got the business and cemented the relationship with your initial investment in communication in your customer's language now how do you go on? You can go…
Beyond the Ice-breaker
“Dear Barbara,
I wanted to say how much we appreciated the French language course that you gave to Robert, Mike and myself.
You have given us all the ability to handle basic business situations in a confident manner, both over the telephone and face-to-face. We intend to maintain these skills so that we can make full use of them and maximise business opportunities in the future.
If we need further training we will definitely ask you, and we will be happy to recommend your services to anyone requiring training in this field.
Many thanks once again.”

The initial contact and social niceties over, you now face another challenge - and one which many of us would rather avoid - contacting your customer by phone! But have no fear we can get you through… past the switchboard, that is. And once you've given your name, and got the other party to speak more slowly you'll be able to leave your name and number for a return call “kein Problem”. It will also be helpful to be able to make arrangements by phone – such as appointments, hotel, travel so we take you through all this as well and, once you can do all this, writing a simple email or fax in confirmation will be a piece of cake. Or, as the French say “De la tarte!”
Kann ich bitte Herrn Schmidt sprechen?
Moment, ich verbinde.
